On its third day of release, Sudipto Sen’s film The Kerala Story has earned ₹16 crore at the Indian box office. On Sunday, the movie witnessed an increase of 42.60%. Since its May 5 premiere, The Kerala Story has already made over ₹35 crore. The movie’s trailer drew criticism for first asserting that 32,000 females from Kerala vanished and later joined the terrorist organisation ISIS.
The Kerala Story team pulled back the number in response to criticism. The film’s production team referred to it as the tale of three Keralan ladies in its trailer description. The Kerala Story, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, opened in theatres after the Kerala High Court declined to seek a stay of the film’s release. Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani play the key parts in the film.
