A strong candidates for the post of Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, abruptly cancelled his travel to Delhi, adding a new twist to the state’s political suspense. The 61-year-old gave the excuse of being ill when he was summoned by the party’s Central leadership on Monday evening.

“I have faith in you that you will deliver Karnataka,” Sonia Gandhi said to me. As I sit here, I’m taking care of my usual duties. You ought to show some basic decency and gratitude. In an interview he said, “They ought to have the decency to acknowledge who was responsible for the victory.

When asked what he would do if his action was perceived as rebellious, Mr. Shivakumar responded, “I won’t blackmail, that’s not me.Don’t sense anything at all. My own presence of consciousness is present. I am an adult. I’m not going to be duped.

He remarked, “I wish him the best,” in response to Mr. Siddaramaiah’s assertion that he has the backing of the MLAs.

This evening, Mr. Siddaramaiah, who is already in the capital, was scheduled to meet with Mallikarjun Kharge, the party’s leader. Randeep Surjewala, a prominent party leader, said the meeting did not take place.
