The Congress and other opposition parties have voiced their dissatisfaction about Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating  the new parliament instead of President Droupadi Murmu.

The Trinamool Congress of Mamata Banerjee became the first opposition group to declare that they would skip Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s May 28 inauguration of the new parliament in Delhi’s Central Vista. Later in the evening, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party joined the boycott, saying that President Droupadi Murmu’s being denied the opportunity to inaugurate the new building is a “insult” and that it is their intention to do so as well.

As part of his outreach to opposition parties about the Centre’s executive order on the transfer and posting of bureaucrats in Delhi, Mr. Kejriwal met with Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday

Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien tweeted, “Parliament is not just a new building; it is an establishment with old traditions, values, precedents and rules – it is the foundation of Indian democracy. PM Modi doesn’t get that. For him, Sunday’s inauguration of the new building is all about I, ME, MYSELF. So count us out”.
