Wild elephant stomped a research intern in Anaikatty

A wild elephant stomped a research intern of the Salim Ali Institute of Ornithology in Anaikatty, causing his death.

During the event, Rajasthani researcher Vishal Sreemala was going through a forested region when he accidentally came in front of a wild elephant. The elephant became aggressive, flung the student into the air, and then stomped him.

The incident took place on Tuesday night.

The injured person was taken right away to the Agali tribal hospital near the Kerala border, but upon arrival, he was already declared dead.

For the past few months, Sreemala had been an intern with the organisation. A post-mortem will be performed at the government taluk hospital in Agali before the body is given to his family.

This makes a total number of three people died this year as a result of elephant attacks.

The State Forest Department is being criticised by the locals for failing to adequately address the problem of wild elephants invading farmlands and threatening villagers.
