On Sunday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were soundly defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders in their last home game of the IPL 2023. Chasing a target of 145, KKR won by six wickets and nine balls, with captain Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh creating match-winning half-centuries. Rana finished unbeaten on 57 off 44 balls, while Rinku hit 54 off 43 deliveries to set up the KKR chase after they lost their first three wickets for 33 runs in the fifth over.
While Rana and Rinku’s partnership was one of the highlights, the night’s most memorable moment occurred after the contest.
While Dhoni and the CSK players were taking a walk around the Chepauk to hand out goodies to the fans, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, who is presently part of the IPL 2023 commentary crew, raced up to the CSK captain and got his autograph on his shirt. After the same moment, Dhoni and Gavaskar hugged.
Gavaskar said on-air after collecting Dhoni’s autograph on his shirt, “Please give me a new pink shirt for the remaining games.”.
