Due to a hamstring injury, all-rounder Washington Sundar will not be able to play in the future Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in 2023, his team Sunrisers Hyderabad said on Thursday. Sundar has been a pillar of the Sunrisers team this season, but he won’t be able to participate any further in the tournament. The team has not yet revealed who will take the all-around spin bowler’s role. The Sunrisers posted on Twitter “Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Speedy recovery, Washi”.
The all-rounder Sundar is a crucial member of the SRH team, despite the fact that he hasn’t been at his best this season. Sundar has three wickets under his belt in seven matches at an average of 48.66 and an economy of 8.26 before being ruled out of the 16th season of the league with 60 runs scored at an average of 15. In the IPL 2022 auction, Sundar was picked up by the Sunrisers for Rs. 8.25 crore.
The Tamil Nadu player suffered split webbing in his bowling hand during the previous IPL.
The Sunrisers’ chances of making the playoffs this season have been severely damaged by Sundar’s absence. The Aiden Markram-led team hasn’t been able to match some of the other teams’ on-field performances, languishing at the bottom of the standings with just two victories in their last five games. Their next league matchup is against Delhi Capitals.
In the current 10-team standings, SRH are mired in ninth place with two victories and five defeats from their first seven games. The team still haven’t named Sundar’s replacement.
